Baby care in winter: How to protect delicate baby skin

The snow-covered landscapes not only enchant our spirits, they also conjure up frosty, new challenges for our skin. This particularly affects sensitive baby skin. The mixture of cold outside air and dry heating air requires special care for your little one's delicate baby skin. We have put together some tips and tricks for perfect baby care in winter to ensure that your baby's skin is optimally protected during this cold season.

  1. Gentle cleaning is the key

In winter, your baby's skin is particularly sensitive, so it is important to ensure gentle cleansing. Use mild, perfume-free cleansing lotions and wipes to protect the delicate skin from drying out. Make sure the products are pH-neutral so as not to disrupt the skin's natural protective barrier. Gentle cleansing in the morning and evening is sufficient to remove dirt without stressing the skin.

Almond oil is particularly popular. Almond oil has a moisturizing effect and helps to keep the skin supple. It is therefore ideal in the winter months and when the air is dry. It is very well tolerated, even by babies with sensitive skin. It also has a calming effect on irritated skin - two birds with one stone! They have a very high fat content and are therefore also very good for protecting baby's skin from drying out. Apply the moisturizer after bathing and whenever the skin appears dry. Concentrate on areas that are particularly prone to dryness, such as the cheeks, hands and feet.

  1. Clothing as a protective shield

The layered look is simply the best in winter. But do you know why it also has many advantages for the skin? By dressing your baby in several thin layers instead of one thick one, the air can circulate better between the layers. This also allows the body temperature to regulate better and the skin to breathe better. Make sure to protect the hands, head and feet in particular, as this is where most heat is lost. Since our little darlings cool down much more quickly than we do, it is also very important to check carefully whether they are too warm or too hot. You can really feel this on the neck.

  1. Baby massage with nourishing oil

A relaxing baby massage is not only a nice MIt is a great way to bond with your little darling. It also promotes blood circulation, moisturizes and strengthens the skin barrier. Exactly what sensitive baby skin wants in the cold season (and your baby always wants it anyway!). Natural almond oil or jojoba oil are great for massage.

  1. Be careful with heating air

The warm, dry air from heaters can further dry out your baby's skin (and airways). If you notice that this is the case, you can set up a humidifier in the nursery to keep the humidity at a comfortable level. However, this also encourages mold, so you should proceed with caution here.

Remember that all of these tips apply to you too. Take good care of yourself and your skin. Winter is a wonderful time of year because it invites us to take better care of ourselves. Make the most of it and enjoy the magic of winter. It won't be long before everything blooms in full splendor again.
